The combination of ceftriaxone and sulbactam is used for the treatment of several bacterial infections. On their own, Ceftriaxone is a cephalosporin antibiotic and sulbactam is a beta lactamase inhibitor. Ceftriaxone has a bactericidal action as it prevents protein synthesis and development of the cell wall. Sulbactam helps prevent bacterial resistance and enhance the effectiveness of the antibiotic. The combination is used to treat bacterial infections caused by ceftriaxone sodium – sensitive pathogens.
